School Nurses

School nurses, working under the direction of the Nursing Services Director, provide care to students or staff members at their school. They are all Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and must maintain current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid. School nurses maintain their school clinic facility with an inventory of supplies and keep medications stored appropriately.They are responsible for maintaining up to date school heath records including medical health histories, Permission to Treat forms and Release of Information contacts. School Nurses work with the Coordinated School Health Department by administering health screenings, including vision, hearing, BMI, scoliosis, and blood pressure. They also work with the Department of Children's Services and other local authorities by reporting, when reasonable suspicion exists, physical, mental, or sexual abuse to a child.
