Staff Dress Code

Staff Dress Code - Adopted April 9, 2013, updated February 1, 2022

In keeping with the educational purpose of MCS schools, all personnel are expected to dress and groom themselves with a sense of professionalism. Each employee is expected to keep his or her person and clothing clean and neat. It is expected that each employee, while exercising his or her right to dress in an individual way, will also show through his or her appearance a high degree of respect for the standards of decency, cleanliness, and style generally accepted by the school and community. The following will apply to employee dress when students are present.

Appropriate/Acceptable Attire:

  • Dress and casual shirts
  • Dress and casual slacks
  • Jeans
  • T shirts, approved at the discretion of school administrator
  • Dress and casual shoes
  • Ties
  • All shorts, skirts, and dresses should be worn at an appropriate length for a school setting. All items must be within three (3) inches of the top on the kneecap.
  • Leggings with mid-thigh length top/dress
  • Tops must cover the shoulder and must be able to be tucked into the lower apparel (pants, skirts, etc.)
  • Physical education teachers may dress appropriately for the day’s planned activities.
  • Attire for special activities (ex: field trips, field day) is allowed per principal approval.
  • Scrubs for nursing staff/therapists

Inappropriate/Unacceptable Attire:

  • Sheer, exposing, low-cut, or revealing articles of clothing
  • Leggings worn as pants
  • Exercise/yoga attire including sweat pants
  • The exposure of undergarments is offensive and distracting in a school environment. Therefore, “sagging” will not be permitted. To prevent such occurrences, pants must be belted at the natural waistline. Clothing must not have holes, rips, tears or cuts of three (3) inches above the kneecap that exposes skin.
  • Visible piercings, other than ears or nose studs
