Special Education Program & Intervention

Differentiated Instructional Policy

Morgan County Schools uses instructional practices related to differentiated instruction as an approach to teaching and learning that gives students multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas.  Morgan County requires all Tier 1 teachers to be flexible in their approach to teaching and adjust the curriculum and presentation of information to learners.  Morgan County adopts the Universal Design for Learning Guidelines (UDL) so that teachers understand the why, what and how of learning.

Intervention Policy

Special education is considered the most intensive intervention designed for students with a variety of disabilities. Students with disabilities are likely to benefit from additional services, such as: explicit instruction, the use of technology, or deficit-based intervention. Integrating behavior strategies and interventions should be proactive and include a range of resources.

Practices and Procedures Related to Intervention in Special Education

  • Universal Screener is given for all special education students in the fall, winter and spring for both Reading and Math.
  • Progress Monitoring is required for special education students every 2 weeks.
  • Research based, intensive intervention for each specified disability is required every day at a minimum of 45 minutes of uninterrupted instruction by certified personnel (based on each student's IEP).
